Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated the first Training Programme on Solar Cell and Module Manufacturing at the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurugram, while releasing the updated report on Solar PV Potential Assessment of India (Ground-Mounted).
The Minister highlighted that these twin initiatives mark a paradigm shift in India’s clean energy roadmap, combining scientific mapping with skill development to strengthen the nation’s renewable ecosystem. He noted that India has already achieved 250 GW of non-fossil capacity, fulfilling its 2030 NDC target five years early, and is steadily moving towards energy independence by 2047 and net-zero by 2070.
The updated report, developed with ISRO collaboration, estimates 3,343 GW of feasible ground-mounted solar potential across the country, far exceeding the 2014 estimate of 749 GW. The study uses advanced GIS, satellite datasets, and land-use models to identify investment-ready solar sites nationwide.
The new training programme at NISE aims to build skilled manpower for India’s rapidly growing solar manufacturing base of over 100 GW. Interacting with 28 women trainees from 15 nations, Shri Joshi underlined the role of Nari Shakti in the clean energy transition, calling it central to building a self-reliant, sustainable future.
