Union Minister of Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat represented India at the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (MONDIACULT 2025), organized by UNESCO in Barcelona on 29 September.
In a significant recognition of India’s leadership, Shekhawat chaired the Asia-Pacific Group during the Plenary Session, which adopted key rules and agendas for the conference. He emphasized culture as a global public good and a driver of sustainable development, highlighting India’s commitment to cultural rights and the creative economy.
The Minister also participated in thematic discussions on cultural rights and the economy of culture, underlining culture’s role in fostering inclusive growth. On the sidelines, he held bilateral meetings with ministers from Spain, Iran, Norway, Colombia, and Greece to deepen cooperation in heritage, museums, creative industries, and performing arts.
India reaffirmed its role as a key voice in advancing global cultural dialogue.
