FREELANCING WILL BE THE NEW NORMAL OF MEDIA INDUSTRY

Looking at the media layoffs in the pandemic times, freelancing will be emerging as the ‘new normal’ of the media industry. This will be a win-win situation for both the publications as well as the reporters. With reduced resources in the news room, the former will depend on freelance journalists for good stories and the latter can also benefit by contributing as a freelance journalist till the situation returns to normalcy. In fact, they can even take it up as a full time career. This was stated by Senior Journalist, Ms. Namita S Kalla at an Instagram Live Session entitled ‘The New Normal in the Media Biz’.

Giving tips to media students and beginners on how to write a good copy, Ms. Kalla said that one must give a catchy heading, include elements like box item, bullet points etc. High resolution photographs along with captions should also accompany the story. During the session the journalist also responded to queries relating to difference in writing for a newspaper and a magazine, best way of reaching out to an editor, inspiration for story ideas, among others.
