Foldable Shelters A Great Opportunity For Govt

After identifying an infrastructure gap in the area that could be useful in building humanitarian houses, dispensaries and schools in remote areas, adventure camps, and warehouses the trio did some research to find a solution for this. During the process, they came across a company based in UK named as Extremis Technology.

Quicker delivery, lower cost, and weather resistant nature of these structures bring a unique proposition to the table. That’s how we decided to have a tie-up with the company to work for India,” said Riteek Boochra in an interview to Business Rankers.

Humanitarian shelters are a focus area for the company even though it is witnessing demand from multiple sectors. Boochra says the structures can be deployed within 30 minutes without the help of any tools or expertise. “Additionally,” he said, “The shelters are wind and temperature resistant, and can withstand rains or winds up to level-5 hurricanes. The shelters, which come with a guarantee period of 10 years, can be easily folded up and moved. Also, they are cheaper by 30-40% compared to conventional buildings.”

Green Brick Project has already made an inspiring beginning. In an interview to a leading daily Boochra had said that the company has already provided 100 shelters for dispensaries in Rajasthan and is building a warehouse for a reputed FMCG company in VKI industrial area. Dhruv said they are talking to other companies to build five more warehouses for other MNCs including an e-commerce company.

Besides, there are many villages where population is much lesser and to make a dispensary it takes around six months. Dhruv feels that since they can deliver the product in less than a day’s time, they feel there will be more demand from activities like medical camps set up during festivals in Pushkar or Kumbh mela. He said since the houses are moveable, they can meet the requirement of pilgrims in such melas.

With regard to its manufacturing facility, Rishabh said, “We have set up a factory in Mooradabad and the first production of the soft wood products will start very soon. Since we have capacity to meet demand for larger volumes, we are now approaching various government departments to use the houses for disaster management.

With these foldable shelters, the governments can not only save money but also the crucial time-factor required to address the crisis situations.”

The Rishabh feels that the company will create lot of jobs as people will be required to build such houses. “We are supporting ‘Make in India’ campaign initiated by the Modi government.

Under the skill development initiative, we will train the local people and teach them the technique for the production. Our operation will lot of people as we would be supplying to various states like J&K, Kerela or North-East,” Rishabh explained

The major raw material for the shelters is wood which is sourced from the ship-breaking industry. But the roofs and walls are painted with resistive chemical to protect from heat, rain and cold.
